About Us
TEDxCanberra – an independently organised TEDx Event
TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. Meanwhile, independently run TEDx events help share ideas in communities around the world.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organised events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organised events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organised TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organised. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
TEDxCanberra is an independently organised, volunteer run, community based event operating under licence from TED. Since 2010, the volunteers at TEDxCanberra have run at least one major, all-day, conference every year in Australia’s National Capital, bringing in speakers and performers to share their ideas worth spreading with our audience. In 2017, we are celebrating our eighth year of operation, and our major event, in September, will be the 14th event we’ve delivered.
Putting TEDxCanberra takes over 3000 volunteer hours every year. Our team donates their time, skills, knowledge and effort to make TEDxCanberra Events memorable for everyone who attends.
